Chapter 17
Throughout the book Pop by Gordon Korman there were many interesting plots that capture my eye. One in particular was in chapter 17 where Marcus is getting to know Charlie a little better. Marcus already knows that Charlie is a pro football player and he's starting to get Alzheimer's as he ages. Marcus decides to choose between either going to his football game or bring Charlie to the Hall of Fame at East Bonaventure University. Marcus ends up bringing him to the Hall of Fame at Charlie's University. It seems that Marcus cares about Charlie more than his family does.

I believe that Charlie's family does not know how to handle Charlie's disease. They would have done well as a family to go to a support group and deal with the disease as a family. The family was trying to hide the disease from the public but in the end, I think it was more harmful than they realized. Charlie's memory was only good when he was put in a situation that sparked his memory of his past football years. Marcus understood this and realized that Charlie should attend his old University where he was getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. For that brief moment when Charlie received the award and honor, Charlie knew what it was all about and enjoyed every minute being in the spotlight. In the end, Charlie's family realized that Marcus knew what was best for Charlie. Sometimes it takes an outsider to see what is best for a person especially if the family is having a hard time coping with a situation. Marcus was a true friend to Charlie and I commend Marcus for all that he did for Charlie. Marcus is a true friend. DanielG10
