I agree that when I first started reading the book, I thought it would be about some kid who moves to a new town, try's out for the football team, and isn't liked by most of the others. But it ended up being more than that.  Marcus really stepped forward and showed the team what he can do, not only as a quarterback, but also as a cornerback. I think that practicing with Charlie has improved Marcus' playing ability and will benefit him in the long run.
